Aldo Sisillo

Aldo Sisillo was born in Neaples. He studied music at the Conservatories of Naples and Bologna. He also graduated in music from the University of Bologna’s Music and Performing Arts Department (Discipline delle Arti, della Musica e dello Spettacolo). He studied orchestra conducting with Maestro Massimo de Bernart, Maestro Vladimir Delman and Maestro Gianluigi Gelmetti.
Among his many commitments, he received invitations from institutions and symphonic orchestras as guest conductor as Orchestra Haydn (Bolzano), Orchestra Alessandro Scarlatti (RAI, state broadcasting authority, Naples), Arturo Toscanini dell’Emilia Romagna orchestra, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Parma, Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Orchestra Sinfonica di Bari, ), Orchestra Sinfonica di Lecce, Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, Liszt Academy (Budapest), National Theatre in Split (Croatia), San Petersburg Radio Simphony Orchestra, Moscow Radio&TV Symphony Orchestra, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Armenian Symphony Orchestra and Festival di Ravello.
He has conducted in various opera houses, including Teatro Comunale (Bologna), Teatro Massimo (Palermo), Teatro dell’Opera (Roma), Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Bellini (Catania), Sofia Opera and Ballet, National Theatre (Athens), Florida Grand Opera (Miami, USA), Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, Teatro Comunale di Modena, Teatro “Donizetti’ (Bergamo), Teatro “del Giglio” (Lucca), Teatro Nazionale (Split), Teatro “Verdi” (Pisa), Teatro comunale (Bolzano), Teatro “Giovanni da Udine” (Udine), Teatro “Alighieri” (Ravenna), Ente Luglio Trapanese. In November 2007 he inaugurated celebrations for Giacomo Puccini’s 150years in Lucca – native town of the Maestro- with a new Trittico staging. On first anniversary of Luciano Pavarotti’s death, he conducted in Modena Verdi Requiem. In November 2008 he conducted at Florida Grand Opera in Miami (USA) a new Traviata staging. He displays a keen interest in contemporary music.
He has conducted at many world premiere events for Festival delle Nazioni di Città di Castello, the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano, Nuove Forme Sonore in Rome, the Estate Chigiana summer events calendar in Siena, and the Festival Angelica in Bologna. He has taken part in projects spanning a variety of musical genres.
He has recorded for various record labels (Fonit Cetra, Naxos and l’Hermitage). The State broadcasting authority, RAI, has also recorded many of his concerts.
He also composed musical accompaniments for theatrical events presented at the Venice Biennale, the World Festival (Nancy), the Festival di Santarcangelo, the Rassegna dei Teatri Stabili (Florence), and the Val-de-Marne Festival (Paris).
In 1984 he founded the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Emilia Romagna Region (Orchestra Sinfonica Giovanile dell’Emilia Romagna); as his head conductor he has toured both in Italy and abroad.
From 1995 to 2000 he held the post of Segretario Artistico (Artistic Secretary) at the Teatro Comunale (Bologna).He is currently Direttore Artistico (Artistic Director) for the Fondazione Teatro Comunale (Modena) and the Festival delle Nazioni di Città di Castello.
He teaches at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma.
